As a fundraiser for our team every year we make and sell apple pies to people. We make them for Thanksgiving and everyone on the team participates to help raise money for our competitions. Everyone has to sell at least 10 apple pies to in order to lower the cost for each persons trip but the more you sell the less it costs. This year we had the most people we’ve ever had on our team, a total of almost 50 students and when everyone had sold their number of pies (plus any extras they wanted to sell to save money) our total came out to 620 total pies.
We made all of these pies the weekend before Thanksgiving to make sure they were nice and fresh, however 620 pies in one weekend is a lot of work and we needed to put in a lot of effort for this fundraiser. It took us the entire weekend to prepare, make, cook, and then distribute 620 pies so as you might guess it was not an easy weekend for our team members. We spent the Friday before Thanksgiving preparing “pie bags” after school, this took us nearly 4 hours to do, and that was only the start. Saturday we spent the whole day peeling and preparing apples and then baking pies. On Sunday we distributed all of the pies to people and our goal was finally complete. Making over 600 pies took a lot of work from all of our team members but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it at the same time. Working as a team and hanging out with my fellow team members for the whole weekend was an exciting occasion and the enjoyment of doing all that work with friends made the burden of all those pies easier. The 2011 apple pie fundraiser was our most difficult one yet but it was an event that I feel our whole team can come away from happy and and with a sense of accomplishment.
